The Portuguese Hillclimb Championship starts this weekend with the Rampa da Penha near Guimarães. 47 drivers are on the entrylist so far, which is a massive number in Portugal.
Last year’s runner-up Pedro Salvador is not running the Silver Car EF10 this year. He will be present at the Penha Hillclimb, but in a Seat Leon Cup Racer. That means Rui and Paulo Ramalho will have a more comfortable season. Their only rivals are Helder Silva, driving their old Juno CN09, and Nuno Guimarães with his BRC CM02.
José Correia is the new promotor of the Portuguese Championship. Of course the GT-Champion returns in 2018 with his familiar Nissan GT3. His older daughter will be competing in a Seat Leon Cup later this season. Gabriela Correia is not driving in Guimarães because she is not yet 16!
Pedro Coelho Saraiva won the Category 3 championship last season in a Mitsubishi Lancer. For 2018 Coelho Saraiva will be competing in a brand-new Hyundai i20. He will face opposition from João Barros in a Ford Fiesta R5. Luis Silva is another new R5 driver, but he entered his Citroën DS3 in the E1 category. There he will once again face his longterm rival Manuel Correira.
