Arriondas lies in a small valley at the confluence of the Silas and Piloña rivers. By flight it is perhaps 10km to the Atlantic Ocean in the north. However, if you take the road you must first climb the 1100m high El Fito mountain. Although the trajectory of the hillclimb does not go to the top, it still rises to some 450m above sealevel.
The El Fito is part of a larger limestone mountain range in the north of the Asturias called the Cantabrian Mountains. It is characteristic for its very high and sharp peaks cut by irregular valleys. Large areas of the mountains are protected national parks. The Picos de Europa national park starts just a few kilometres south of Arriondas.
The nearest cities are Oviedo and Gijon some 65km to the east.
