Results Course de Côte d’Abreschviller – Saint Quirin 2018

It is a thrilling year in the French Championship so far. After Geoffrey Schatz won the first event and Sebastien Petit the second, the joint points leaders moved to the Course de Côte d’Abreschviller – Saint Quirin for the third event of the season.

The two rivals were equally matched on the short but tricky course. Schatz initially took the lead, but Petit countered in the second race with a new trackrecord. All would be decided in the third race. Petit managed to improve his time ever so slightly. The final word was however for Schatz. With a brilliant final run he took victory and of course also the trackrecord. His final advantage over Petit was just .031 seconds!

The podium was completed by Patrik Zajelsnik. The Sloveno-German did not really have a rival at Abreschviller. He was a second slower than the leaders but also two seconds quicker than fourth-placed David Meillon. Kevin Durot made his comeback in Abreschviller after a two year break. The former Cup-winner immediately proved he is still quick. In the ex-Guillaumard Norma M20 FC Honda Durot finished fifth overall and became the winner of the competitive CN2 class. Best of the singleseaters was Anthony Loeuilleux. The Tatuus Master pilot made a mistake in the first race but repaired his car in time to place himself sixth overall.

Best of the touringcar drivers was Ronnie Bratschi. The Swiss driver was however competing as a guest and played no part in the championship battle. Pierre Courroye was half a second slower than Bratschi, but did score maximum points. Nicolas Werver and Philippe Schmitter were best of the rest, but still not close to Courroye.

The Abreschviller Hillclimb was also the first round of the Luxembourg Hillclimb Championship. Daniel Donkels won the singleseaters without any opposition. Canio Marchione debuted his new BMW M3 E36 STW (ex-Rottenberger/Weidinger and ex-Bürki). The reigning champion finished second behind Charles Valentiny.
