The Skopje City Prize is competed on the Vodno Mountain. The 1066m tall mountain is one of the most important tourist destinations in Macedonia. Located just south of the city Vodno is easily recognizable by the enormous Millennium Cross right at the highest point. This 66m high metal construction is the biggest cross in the world. It was funded by the Macedonian Orthodox Church to celebrate the 2000 years since Jesus Christ’s birth. Apart from the Millenium Cross, tourists are also attracted by the nature on and near Vodno Mountain. The Prskalo Waterfall is a fixed stop for all travelers.

Skopje is the capital of Macedonia. It houses almost a third of the entire population of the country. Skopje was inhabited since prehistoric times. Located on a trade route between Athens and Belgrade it has always been an important place. Romans, Byzantines, Bulgarians and Serbians have all laid claim to Skopje, before it fell to the Ottoman Empire in 1392. They remained until 1918 when Macedonia became part of Yugoslavia. Since 1991 Skopje is the capital of an independent Macedonia. The multicultural history of the city is best illustrated in the Old Bazaar. The historic, cultural, commercial and tourist center of the city. Nearby is the Kale City Fortress, built on the highest point of the city. It now houses several museums. Walking from the Old Bazaar south you will come across the Stone Bridge, originally built in 1451. It is in the Coat of Arms of the City. Crossing the Vardar River over the Bridge you will arrive at the Macedonia Square. Here are the more modern monuments found. One of them is the Mother Teresa Memorial House which recalls the life of the famous nun who was born and raised in Skopje.
