Results Memorial Valeri Velikov (Shumen) 2017

Hristo Manolov dominated the season opener of the Bulgarian Hillclimb Championship this weekend. There were three practise sessions at the Memorial Valeri Velikov and Manolov set fastest time in all three. There were also three race sessions and Manolov set fastest times in all three of them too. Julian Teliyski had a small practise crash. But even without it he was still three seconds slower than Manolov in every session. Georgi Vasilev, Martin Surilov and Petko Manolov finished 3-4-5. Neither of these drivers will compete a full season. Sixth was the winner of class 3 Stefan Stoev who fought a tense battle for class victory with Ivelin Chapanov. Teammates Jordan Todorov and Alexander Dimitrov were very closely matched in class 4. Although the difference was just 3,5 seconds in the end, Todorov was the fastest of the two every time. Class 5 dominated by Pavel Shenkov with his Lada 2107.

Preview and Entrylist Memorial Valeri Velikov 2017

The Bulgarian Hillclimb Championship starts this weekend in Shumen with the Memorial Valeri Velikov. It is one of the highlights of the season for drivers and fans alike. This year the raceweekend starts with the unveiling of a monument for Valeri Velikov. The monument will be a permanent tribute to one of Bulgarias best rally drivers.

The provisional entrylist counts almost 50 drivers. Not entered at this moment is reigning champion Lyuben Kamenov, although he might still be added later. 7-time winner of this event Ilyia Tsarski is probably the favourite for victory. The surprise of last season was without a doubt Julian Teliyski. In his first season the young driver immediately secured the H2 class title and was third overall in the championship. This year he returns for another full campaign with his Mitsubishi Lancer. It is the same car as 2016 but unrecognizable due to an agressive new aero package.

Results Rahovec – Lyaskovets Hillclimb 2016

160710_rahovecThe fourth round of the Bulgarian Hillclimb Championship was the short but difficult Rahovec – Lyaskovets Hillclimb. Championship leader Daniel Zhivkov could not prepare his car in time and had to withdraw. This opened the door wide open for Lyuben Kamenov. The reigning Champion took this opportunity with both hands. The Mitsubishi Lancer pilot had a perfect event with fastest time in all three runs and overall victory. Rally driver Martin Surilov was a surprise in second overall. Both Julian Teliyski and Hristo Manolov suffered serious mechanical problems during the weekend and lost valuable time.

Results Bulgarka Hillclimb (Sliven) 2016

160605_bulgarkaThe third round of the Bulgarian Hillclimb Championship was the famous Bulgarka Hillclimb near Sliven. A record entry of over 50 drivers was announced. Since the last event championship leader Daniel Zhivkov had won a silver medal in the European Armwrestling Championship. Wrestling his Lancia Delta Integrale over the 5+ kilometres of the Bulgarka Hillclimb proved to be more difficult. This track really suited the Mitsubishi Lancers and they finished 1-2-3-4 while Zhivkov was only fifth.

Last year’s champion Lyuben Kamenov faced a formidable rival this weekend in the form of former champion Ilya Tsarski. The two were evenly matched and switched positions constantly but eventually Kamenov had the best aggregate time so he could claim victory. Behind the two leaders Hristo Manolov is still searching for that little bit of extra speed. In every race he was around 3 seconds of the leaders, enough to take third but not enough to challenge for victory. Yuliyan Teliski held of Zhivkov to take fourth.
